— Our Nutrition Philosophy —

Created with Science, Guided by Nature

We shouldn’t have to pick between healthy pet food and sustainable pet food

As lovers of both pets and the earth, we noticed a huge gap in the pet food industry. Where are the sustainable options that fit our healthy active lifestyle? We want to create a better world for our furry family to live in – today and for the future. That’s why we only use sustainable and natural ingredients that are nutrient dense. Everything our pets need to thrive without breaking the planet!

Our nutrition philosophy is guided by the following:

At HOPE, we voluntarily follow the European Pet Food Industry (FEDIAF) recommendations and thereby the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) guidelines, which set nutrient minimums and maximums for dogs and cats. We go above and beyond these recommendations when creating our formulas and each batch of HOPE is tested by a third-party laboratory to ensure our food meets and exceeds nutrient guidelines. Our goal is to ensure our products result in excellent nourishment for our pets.

We follow the latest evidence to provide optimal nutrition for dogs. We use the requirements set out by FEDIAF to guide our formulations, but we like to go beyond, so we created a stricter nutritional guideline we can feel good about. Our team of Scientists are constantly evaluating the latest evidence to create what we call: the HOPE requirements, always more stringent than FEDIAF or AAFCO.

As the collective understanding of pet nutrition evolves and new evidence becomes available, we will improve. Nothing is perfect, but we will always aim to be better with an evidence-based approach.

At HOPE, we are always on the lookout for ingredients that will make the best blend of nutrients to make a digestible, palatable, and sustainable food for our pets. We love to be transparent with every single step of the pet food creation process. We research ingredients that supply the essential nutrients our pets need to thrive, create highly digestible, tasty and sustainable pet foods and then test these foods to ensure they are supplying all the nutrients required and to ensure our pets love them as well.

We asked ourselves, why should we settle with the meat-based vs plant-based debate when there is so much more? Some of the nutrients our pets need to thrive are not found in the right quantities in plants BUT nature is wise (you already knew that!)  The nutrients that allow for life on this planet are not only found in livestock and fish. In fact, some of these are just middlemen. For example, did you know algae is the primary source of Omegas for fish? So let’s go directly to the source!
